Diogo Alves Galico
I am originally from Bauru, Brazil. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from São Paulo State University (Bauru campus) in 2012. As an undergraduate, I became the first researcher in the newly established group of Prof. Gilbert Bannach, where I investigated lanthanide(III) complexes with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs as ligands. I continued in the same group to complete my M.Sc. in Materials Science in 2014.In 2014 I moved to the University of Campinas, where I obtained my Ph.D. in 2018 under the supervision of Prof. Fernando Aparecido Sigoli. During my doctoral studies I focused on the luminescence of lanthanide(III) materials, with particular emphasis on the development of luminescent probes for temperature and oxygen sensing. In 2018 I relocated to Canada to join the University of Ottawa as a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Prof. Muralee Murugesu. There I expanded my expertise into molecular magnetism while contributing my background in luminescence, and I initiated a new research direction exploring the magneto-optical properties of lanthanide(III) materials.
In July 2025 I joined the University of Alberta as an Assistant Professor and began establishing my independent research group.
